Ebony Netsuke of a Bat, Attributed to Horaku
Flying, with its wings just touching above it. The manner of carving the face, with inlaid dark horn eyes and single stroke for the mouth, is typical of Horaku
Unsigned. Kyoto, circa 1820
I have seen two versions of the subject. One of them may have been in the Marcel Lorber collection, sold at Sotheby’s London, 12th June 1986, lot 14, illustrated p. 23
