Ivory netsuke of a recumbent shishi
Lying curled on its side, its left paws touching, this is a spirited little beast with bushy main and tail, its rib cage well defined.
Osaka, before 1800
Length: 3.7 cm
Although the artist has not been identified, his work is known from a distinct group of five shishi netsuke, discussed in the 2006 Sydney L. Moss catalogue More Things in Heaven and Earth, no. 25, p.66-7.
