Dark Wood Musozutsu by Kaigyokusai Masatsugu (Osaka 1813-92)

Highly polished, inlaid with an egret wading close to a lotus bed, the bird of applied shell, the leaves of dark stained stag antler, with other shell details and silver wire for the water. The cord attachment is integral to the lower sleeve

The reader may at first be surprised by the mention of  Kaigyokusai, but it is worth comparing to the admittedly consummate kōgō in Eskenazi’s catalogue for December 1986, no. 71
