Project Description
Four Case Lacquer Inro with Eagle and Monkey by Okuda Yoshitsura
A roiro-mura-nashiji ground is almost lost beneath an astounding display of lacquering virtuosity, a monkey hiding amongst rocks from the large eagle which occupies most of the face. Silver mounts to the ends of the cord runners. To the right of the signature is the name Yūga with kaō, while the inside of the cover is signed Kahei with kaō, the latter suggesting a collaboration. The former name is probably that of the Kanō painter of that name (1824-1866)
