Project Description

Hirado Porcelain Vase

The ovoid vase with a largely reticulated exterior, the solid areas decorated in underglaze blue with flowering iris.  It is cleverly constructed so that there is an integral inner cylinder to hold water

Unsigned. Late Meiji period (1868-1912)

Height: 26.7 cm

Compare with a similar vase in Louis Lawrence, Hirado: Prince of Porcelains, p. 132, pl. 101. Another variant is signed on the outside of the inner tube
