A netsuke carved (note, not moulded) from the artificial material lucite. the single visible eye an inlay of translucent material (pale horn or a plug of lucite?) over gold foil and an inlay of black material.  The netsuke has an attractive turquoise luminescence, probably produced by applications of pigment to the crevices of the carving
