Ivory Netsuke of an Ox by Kaigyokusai Masatsugu (Osaka 1813-92)

Recumbent, with its head turned back.  The musculature of the strong neck and the ribs are especially sensitively carved. The eyes are double inlaid and the himotoshi is excavated behind the lower part of the right hind leg. The overall composition makes for an ideal netsuke
