Project Description
Ivory Netsuke of Daruma by Ohara Mitsusada
Carved from a beautiful piece of ivory, Daruma looks straight ahead with a stern frown, his hands hidden within the voluminous sleeves of his robe.
He is bald apart from sparse stippled and stained stubble above his huge ears. His eye pupils are drilled and stained
Signed behind: Mitsusada. Osaka. Circa 1870
Height: 4.3 cm
Information:
While inspired by the Daruma carvings of Mitsuhiro, this is an individual variant, and as far as I can tell a unique one for the artist. Fuld lists no netsuke of Daruma by Mitsusada
