Lightly Stained Boxwood Netsuke of an in Itinerant Fox Priest by Adam Bland (b. 1984)
Dressed in breeches gathered at the ankles and a half length coat with voluminous sleeves, engraved with a mon on the shoulder, holding a long gnarled staff encirlced by a rosary which hangs over a wrist. On his head he wears an e-boshi and on his feet waraji (straw sandals). The fur of the fox, the material of the hat and the sleeves of the undergarment are sensitively worked for texture. The himotoshi are of the chimney type, allowing the frayed ends of a slik cord to serve as a tail
Signed with monogram beneath the right sandal. Carved in 2024
