A keyaki (Japanese zelkova or elm) burr wood tray carved as a folded lotus leaf

Incised signature beneath: tesseki to with kaō. Circa 1925-35

78 by 44 cm across

With original box, titled on the cover kayōshikikōbon [lotus leaf shaped incense tray], signed and sealed beneath tō tesseki saku with seals tōshi and tesseki


Tesseki is thought to have been a student of Kano Tessai (1845-1925), and therefore to have worked at Nara
