Masahiro Ivory Netsuke of a Shishimai Acrobat

Masahiro Ivory Netsuke of a Shishimai Acrobat

Project Description

Netsuke of an ivory shishimai acrobat, by Masahiro

The elaborately dressed boy performing a handstand on his forearms, with his legs bent over so that his feet touch his lion mask, all on a low table. Engraved and inked decoration, with brass inlaid eyes to the mask

Signed: Masahiro. Osaka, circa 1900

Height: 4.2 cm

This seems to be a unique subject by an artist who was given to repeating his compositions. He was a pupil of Mitsuhiro.
