Part lacquered wood panel with an owl by Mochizuki Hanzan (1743?-1790?)
An owl perches on a branch of a flowering red camellia, while below it a nightingale looks upward. The birds are of inlaid pottery, the camellia is mostly in takamakie with some leaves of inlaid shell
Signed in dark lacquer: ‘yukutoshi (gyōsai), nanajū-nana, Ritsuō sei’, with inlaid pottery seal Kan [made by Ritsuō, at the age of Seventy-seven], equivalent to 1739
