Rare Ivory Netsuke of a Tigress and Her Two Cubs by Tomotada (Kyoto, active 1760-1780)

The tigress is seated licking her right paw, her tail snaking past her right flank to rest between her shoulder blades. The cubs stay close beneath her, one scratching its chin, the other suckling. The hairwork is delicately incised and stained. The mother and one cub have eyes inlaid in dark buffalo horn
