Project Description
Shibuichi Kozuka Engraved with Mt. Fuji, Haruaki Hogen
The sacred mountain carved in relief, its snow covered summit suggested by silver inlay, a wisp of cloud in gold relief, excavated metal in the foreground heaped to represent the foliage of tree tops
inscribed jipp-ō haruaki hogen with kaō. Early 19th century
9.7 cm
with box
The jippo-ō of the signature might be translated as old man of the ten Buddhist directions, implying a man of some years who has seen it all. It might explain why the kaō is not entirely typical
