Ink and colour on silk, depicting the Demon-Queller, clutching a baton and menacing a recoiling demon quivering at his feet. The whole composition resonates with the energy of Shōki’s animosity

The painting has two storage boxes, one fitting inside the other, and is accompanied by a wood panel inscribed in ink on the recto shibata zeshin-o hitsu, shōki no yokofuku [horizontal painting of Shōki by the venerable Shibata Zeshin] and on the verso kakan’an chikushin kan hei dai [examined and titled by Kakan’an Chikushin] with seal yusai
