Project Description
Stag Antler Asakusa School Kiseruzutsu, attributed to Ryūsai
An otoshi-zutsu of rustic form, carved with a rain dragon beneath pierced panels
Tokyo. Circa 1870
Height 19.7cm
One of the pierced seals recarved as the kanji koku for Kokusai. I choose to disregard this seal as the style is distinctly reminiscent of my very first stock item which had the same distinctive dark shading around two dragons and was signed in full Ryusai above a seal. I dare to think that this is the same artist as two further stag antler kiseruzutsu in Paul Moss’s 3 volume book on Kokusai and stag antler carvers, vol. III, nos. 539 and 540
