Uncut Stag Antler Silk Seal Netsuke

A fairly rudimentary example with sparse detail, representing a grotesque bald foreigner wearing a ruff

Height: 3.7 cm

When such seals are carved from the corona of an antler, the seal is at the base.  As this is carved from a tyne, the base is hollow, and the seal would have been carved into the flat pate. As so often with mask netsuke, one can discern another face entirely if one holds the netsuke upside-down
