Walnut Netsuke Carved with Chrysanthemums
The face elaborately pierced with openwork featuring three chrysanthemum heads and tendrils. The verso is carved on the surface of the nut with similar motifs over an asanoha ground.
Signed: Shu(?)getsu. Circa 1850
Width: 3.4 cm
It is possible that a tendril on the openwork side has been lost.
The attribution is in part based on the fact that Klefisch offered a walnut netsuke apparently signed Shugetsu in a sale on 19th June 2004, lot 638.
