Wood and ivory netsuke of Daruma by Shounsai Joryu (active 1800-40) 

An unusual and original depiction of the patriarch, his head and bare torso of ivory inserted into the wood.  His lower legs, sandaled feet and the reed on which he floats are also made of a single piece of ivory
