Wood Netsuke of a Frog on Well Cover by Shigemasa
The creature’s body stippled and lightly stained, the eyes strikingly rendered in a subtler repetition of the same technique, while the well cover is carved with deep grooves imitating a soft wood and stained dark, contrasting with the reddish-brown colour of the frog
Signed in a rectangular reserve: Shigemasa with kaō. Yamada-Ise. Circa 1900
