Wood netsuke of a resting boar, by Tametaka

Curled up with its forelegs and one hind leg tucked under the compact body, the other hind leg bent at its side with the strongly carved hoof set flat on the ground. Although recumbent, its eyes are open and watchful, the ears slightly pricked. The hair work is strongly incised in Tametaka’s bolder, more ‘rustic’ style, the wood paler than he often uses
