Wood netsuke of Shoki and Oni
Shoki seated astride the demon on the ground, holding it by the scruff of the neck and about to deliver a punch to the head. Originally the netsuke was entirely lacquered, and there are remains of pigment in all the crevices
Bears a signature Shuzan. Circa 1800
Height 4.1 cm
Curiously the style of the signature is consistent with those on awful Shuzan derivatives from 1900 and later, while the netsuke itself is much earlier
