Since in a European collection
Fuld mistakenly lists this netsuke as by Hidari Issan, an admirable but different carver. Ryusansai Issan was a far less prolific, though equally talented, netsukeshi, credited by Fuld with a repertoire of some 30 netsuke.  Given my previous comment, one must assume that he carved a few more than that. Where he lived and worked is unclear, though Iwashiro and Gifu have been suggested
