Max Ruthersrton Ltd. wholeheartedly backs reasoned initiatives aimed at safeguarding wild elephants in Africa and Asia and combatting the exportation of poached ivory. However, it is his firm belief that there exists no connection between the trade in antique ivory and the endangerment of these majestic creatures. Regardless of their antiquity, and with almost no exceptions, works of art carved from elephant ivory are no longer permitted to be sold within the United Kingdom.
Here are some of the ivory items that were sold by us prior to the 2018 Ivory Act. Please contact the gallery to view more of our non ivory Japanese Netsuke for sale, or indeed if you wish to sell any Japanese art or antiques.
